Although our website refers mainly to women experiencing domestic abuse at the hands of men, both women and men can be victims of abuse from their own sex if they are lesbian or gay. However, much of the information contained within, has a relevance for anyone in an abusive relationship and it is worth browsing through the whole site to help you to gain more information and understand how we and other agencies can help you.

See warning signs, this will give you some information about what to look for in an abusive relationship. Whatever your sexual orientation, you have the right to be safe within a relationship. Being abused by someone you live with, or have a relationship with and love, can be devastating and confusing. You do not need to feel ashamed or embarrassed to seek help.

You may be afraid to report the abuse in case your sexuality is revealed to friends or family. All cases will be dealt with sensitively and without prejudice and you have the right to legal process.

You do not need to be alone or blame yourself.
