Preparing to leave - items to consider taking with you
  • Address book and useful telephone numbers

  • Bank books and statements plus copies of financial papers such a mortgage payments

  • Cheque books, credit cards and money plus spare change for phone, bus fares or taxis

  • Drivers license and car registration documents

  • Passports and visas

  • Birth, Marriage and Divorce certificates

  • Savings account in your name-save small amounts to establish independence

  • Have extra keys cut for the car, house, office etc.

  • Police reports and details of previous abuse, court orders and restraining orders

  • Medical cards and medication for yourself and the children

  • Copies of lease, rental agreements or deeds to the house if available

  • Money and spare change for the phone, bus fares or taxis

  • Jewellery

  • Mobile phone with available credit

  • Personal insurance documents

  • Allowance and benefit books, National Insurance Number

  • Pictures and other things of sentimental value

  • Change of clothes for yourself and the children

  • Favourite toy, book and blankets for the children

  • Arrange for someone to care for any pets or we can help you to find pet fostering services

Make plans for somewhere to stay, perhaps with a friend or family member. We can help you with seeking alternative accommodation either in a refuge or temporary accommodation and supply a bag to help you to pack. Arrange to leave when you know the abuser will not be around.
