Protecting yourself outside the home
These tips will help you to try to remain safe when you are outside the home. It is important to let people know that you have experienced domestic abuse and may still be at risk.
  • Make sure your employer and a trusted colleague know your situation

  • Carry a hand held alarm, we can supply one to you.

  • Whenever you go out try to make sure you are with someone or, tell someone where you are going and what time you will be back

  • Avoid places where you might meet the perpetrator

  • Change banks and cancel joint accounts and credit cards you shared

  • Keep a mobile phone with available credit and useful numbers with you at all times

  • Change your routines and have a range of routes for getting around, so you do not meet the perpetrator

  • Keep any court orders with you at all times

  • Ensure that no one passes your address or personal details on to anyone without your permission
