Personal safety plan
Once you have recognised that you are in an abusive relationship, this personal safety plan is designed to help you to protect yourself and your childrenif you are being abused. Craven Domestic Violence Service can help you with protection planning, to help keep you and your children safe within the home and outside of it. Only follow those strategies that you feel comfortable with.
  • Work out what you will do if you are attacked

  • Look for a way out, get to a room with a means of escape (door or window)

  • Get to a room with a phone

  • Go to a neighbour or friend for help. This should be someone who has some understanding of your situation and whom you can trust

  • Call 999

  • Call for help, scream loudly and continuously

  • Have a code word that means ring for help

  • Stay away from the kitchen (the abuser can find weapons like knives)

  • Stay away from places where the abuser could trap you (wardrobes and cupboards )

  • Arrange for someone to look after your pets

  • Keep your children safe, teach them:
1.Not to get involved in the fight between you and your partner
2.How to get out of the house safely
3.How to contact the police using 999, practice what they need to say
4.Who to call for help, e.g. a friend, neighbour
