Remember to set yourself realistic goals, if you set too many for yourself
you may not progress as you had expected and therefore may see this as
a failure on your part. However, this is not failure and you should not
be put off, just try to start again. If you need help with realistic goal
setting we can assist you or, if your prefer, talk to a good friend or
family member you can trust.
Some people may need the professional help of a counsellor and if you
would like to explore this, discuss it with your GP who will be able to
refer you to the relevant agency. If you require counselling for specific
issues, we may be able to assist you with this.
Always remember you have been through an incredible ordeal. The relationship
you have broken away from will leave you will a multitude of feelings
ranging from anxiety, difficulty trusting others, reduced confidence and
uncertainty, to mention but a few. In time those feelings will fade.
When you to start to re-build your new life you may discover parts of
yourself that you had forgotten or didnt know you had, so it should
be a positive self discovery and development process.
