Statistics
Of all murders of men about 8% are murders in a domestic context. Domestic abuse claims the life of 30 men per year killed either by a female partner or former partner (Crime in England and Wales 2001/2002: Supplementary Volume (London: Home Office,2003), p. 12).

Domestic abuse affects 1 in 6 men in their lifetime.

People in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities experience domestic violence in a similar proportion to the rest of the population (about one in four) Laurie Henderson, (Prevalence of Domestic Violence among Lesbians and Gay Men: Data Report to Flame TV (Portsmouth, 2003), p. 6.)

Domestic violence has different consequences for victims from different communities. In the LGBT community it may result in threatening to "out" a partner, leading to isolation and harassment. (Home office report 2003)

Sigma Research undertook research on behalf of Flame TV to discover the prevalence of domestic violence among lesbians and gay men. Although this was done some time ago, it has only recently been published (March 2003). Among those surveyed 29% of men had suffered domestic abuse. There was significant underreporting, 81.2% of men failed to report incidents to the police. (Home office report 2003)

Although this site refers generally to women as victims of domestic abuse, see the purpose of the website as this explains why we have done this and that the site is suitable for male victims also.
