- Domestic abuse is the physical, sexual, psychological or financial
violence that takes place within an intimate or family type relationship
and forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour. To be a victim
of domestic abuse you do not have to be hit or physically injured, the
other forms of abuse are just as devastating and destructive
- Domestic abuse can affect people of any social class, race, physical
ability, religion, age or sexual orientation
- Domestic abuse can affect women, men and children
- “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”, (article 5 Universal Declaration of Human Rights)
