What is domestic abuse?
We hope that by looking at this website, it will help you to understand some of the characteristics of domestic abuse and what your options are if you are being abused. One important thing you need to know is that
YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME.
No-one deserves to be assaulted, abused or humiliated.
  • Domestic abuse is the physical, sexual, psychological or financial violence that takes place within an intimate or family type relationship and forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour. To be a victim of domestic abuse you do not have to be hit or physically injured, the other forms of abuse are just as devastating and destructive

  • Domestic abuse can affect people of any social class, race, physical ability, religion, age or sexual orientation

  • Domestic abuse can affect women, men and children

  • “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”, (article 5 Universal Declaration of Human Rights)
